What does "Glass Transition Temperature" mean?

The glass transition temperature (often called $T_g$) is a key point in the behavior of certain materials, especially in polymers. At this temperature, a material changes from a hard and relatively brittle state into a softer, more flexible state.

Less flexible polymers might behave differently, with the number of linked molecules changing based on their length and structure.
